Mumbai-Bound Train Decouples Near Uluberia Station

In an uncommon and slightly astonishing turn of events, a train ended up decoupling. The train departed from the Howrah Railway station in the Indian state of West Bengal. It was headed to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus or the CSMT in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The train decoupled in West Bengal itself, near the Uluberia Station.

According to an article which was recently published by the Times Now, the incident took place on December 15, Friday, in the evening. As per the officials cited in the article, two coaches decoupled with each other near the Uluberia Station. It is approximately an hour away from the Howrah railway station, which is where the train departed from.

Other Details And Similar Instances That Have Happened

A couple of months ago, a similar situation occurred in Mumbai. A local train which was headed to Borivali from Churchgate decoupled near Marine Lines. In this case, it was the third coach from the rear end. There were no injuries or loss of life in this case as well. It happened on October 22, 2023, Sunday around 11 in the morning.

Another similar incident happened when a goods train decoupled on the UP Neral-Vangani Section. Owing to this incident, passengers on the Central Railway line had to experience a number of train delays. Many local trains that ply between CSMT and Kalyan were held up because of this decoupling. The train was coupled shortly after and operations resumed.

There have been instances where a decoupled train has caused damage. In 1926, the Murulla rail accident happened wherein the draw hook of the train broke. This caused part of a train to go downhill and collide with another train!
