On Friday, October 4, 2024, passengers on the Mumbai Metro Line 2A complained of overcrowding at the Andheri West station. A few of them even took to social media to share visuals of the crowded concourse claiming that a stampede-like situation had been created. The authorities responded to the social media posts explaining the situation. Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about this unfortunate situation.

According to an article which was recently published by the Deccan Herald or the DH, this incident took place last night. Prasad Patil, a user on X (formerly known as Twitter) shared pictures and videos of the extreme crowd at the Andheri West station.
In the post, Patil mentions that the extreme crowding was owing to the fact that access between the Andheri West station and the DN Nagar station was suddenly shut. He also goes on to mention that there were no railway staff present at the station to control the crowds.
The pictures and videos shared showed the sheer number of people at the station. The post even claimed that there was a stampede-like situation owing to this.
What Did The Authorities Say About This Crowding?
We regret the inconvenience, Mr. Patil. There was a technical fault in the other Metro line that resulted in a sudden surge of commuters at DN Nagar metro station. Appreciate your kind support. #haveaniceday

The official handle of the Mumbai Metro responded to the post and stated that the overcrowding happened because of a fault in another metro line. This resulted in a surge in travellers at the DN Nagar Metro station.
Thank you for the prompt response. You are right about the technical fault but I think the crowding was due to the closure of the direct transit from Andheri West Metro Stn to DN Nagar station. Even if you want to close the transit, please plan crowd mgt & Control. Thanks again

However, Patil responded by saying that the main cause for the crowd was owing to the closure of direct transit to DN Nagar station. He then suggested that if this is to happen again, then there should at least be better crowd management.
Mumbai Metro experienced a similar level of crowding on September 25, 2024, when heavy rains brought other transport in Mumbai to a standstill.
