Mumbai Metro Updates: These 2 Stations Will No Longer Be Part Of Wadala-Ghatkopar-Thane Line

Mumbai’s metro network has been under development for quite some time. Part of the network is operational and scores of people travel by it every day. The rest of the network, however, is still under development. As per the latest updates on the metro network, Line 4, which is currently under construction, two of the stations that were initially going to be a part of it have now been eliminated.

Mumbai Metro Line 4 Eliminates Two Stations

According to an article which was recently published by The Times Of India or TOI, Mumbai metro’s line 4, Wadala-Ghatkopar-Thane, will have to eliminate two stations that would have been a part of the line. These two stations are Suman Nagar and Amar Mahal. The Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority, or the MMRDA, have removed the two stations for a couple of reasons.

The first is cost-cutting. Building these two stations is bound to take up a portion of the budget which could be put to better use. Hence, in order to save money, not building the two stations was viewed as a better alternative. The second major reason why the stations aren’t being built is the lack of space in their respective areas.

As per a source cited in the TOI article, Amar Mahal station did not seem feasible because already there are multiple high-tension wire towers as well as flyovers in the region. Enough land to build an entire station could not be procured. Hence, it was decided that Amar Mahal station should not be built.

Other Important Updates About This News

The article further went on to state that the reason why Suman Nagar was eliminated was to save the costs of building a station. It would have been located on the junction of Sion-Trombay Road and the Eastern Express Highway or the EEH. This decision was made in a meeting held on Tuesday, 12 December 2023. The meeting was led by the Chief Minister of the state, Eknath Shinde.

What is more, since the Suman Nagar station is no longer being built, the Siddharth Colony station which was to come after it will be repositioned in such a way that the EEH station of Metro Line 2B is integrated with it. Now, the total number of stations on Line 4 is 30. As per the TOI article, each station is planned at a distance of one kilometre.

Earlier, the MMRDA also excluded National College Station from the Metro Line 2B. This line connects DN Nagar to Mandale.
