Mumbai Monorail To Construct Travelator At Jacob Circle To Improve Connectivity

Good news for commuters around Jacob Circle station in Mumbai. An airport-like travelator or moving walkway will be coming up between the railway station and the planned metro station on Line 3 to ease the movement of travellers. Reportedly, the travelator will be introduced to the public by August 2023.

The estimated cost of the project is around ₹62 crores.

Travelator In Mumbai To Connect Jacob Circle Station With Mahalaxmi Railway Station And Line 3 Metro

Jacob Circle, also known as Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk is a monorail station that caters to a large number of passengers in South Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi and Byculla. The inaugural ceremony of this monorail station had taken place on March 3, 2019, in presence of the former Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal.

The travelator will connect Jacob Circle station with Mahalaxmi railway station. As per reports, the walkway will be extended up to the upcoming Line 3 metro station too. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority ( MMRDA) will install the travelator. It will have a length of nearly 500 metres. The walkway will also have two three-metre wide tracks to help passengers move in both directions.

It Will Help In Swift Movement Of Passengers From One Point To Another

The travelator will especially come to aid during rush hours. It will not only enable the swift movement of passengers but will also ease the walking of passengers with knee and foot problems. The MMRDA is also constructing an underground metro linking Mahalaxmi station to handle more passengers. Prominent landmarks located close to the Jacob Circle station include Mahalaxmi Racecourse and Dagdi Chawl.
