We come bearing some good news, Mumbaikars! Ropax has added a new vessel to its fleet and soon, more passengers will be able to travel between Mumbai and Mandwa. The new vessel has already arrived in Mumbai and is expected to start ferry services between Mumbai and Mandwa in September. After all the mandatory formalities and clearances, the trials for the new vessel will begin.

Looks like more passengers will be able to travel between Mumbai and Mandwa from September as Ropax has added a new vessel to its fleet. The vessel has arrived in Mumbai and is undergoing the process of customs clearance and administrative approvals. As per M2M Ferries, the company that operates the Ropax services between Mumbai and Mandwa, it will take about one and a half to two months to complete all the necessary procedures.

After all these formalities and trials, the new ship will be used for passenger service. According to a report in Mumbai Live, about 500 passengers and 150 vehicles travel together on a Ropax ferry between Mumbai and Mandwa currently. With the addition of the new ferry, they will be able to expand their services and even routes in the future. At present, Ropax travels between Bhau Ka Dhakka and Mandwa in Mumbai.

How This Ferry Services Improved Travel

Introduced in 2020, Ropax is a roll-on/roll-off cum passenger ferry service that was launched by the Ministry of Shipping. Operating between Mumbai and Mandwa in Maharashtra, this service has changed the way the city travels! As per the Mumbai Live report, one can travel from Mumbai to Mandwa by a Ropax ferry in just 45 to 60 minutes. Which is less than half of what it takes to cover the 111-kilometre distance between the two cities via road!

Also, while wooden ships halt operations during monsoon between Gateway of India and Mandwa, Ropax continues all its services. It takes 2 to 3 trips between Mumbai and Mandwa daily and about 3-4 on holidays.
