Bharat Taxi App To Have Electric Autos & Kaali Peeli Cabs In Mumbai

Bharat Taxi is an initiative by the Indian government aimed at reducing autorickshaw and taxi drivers’ dependence on app-based aggregators that charge commissions and subscription fees. Positioned as a driver-focused alternative, the platform has finally been launched in Mumbai.

According to Hindustan Times, Bharat Taxi’s driver-facing app went live in Mumbai on April 23, while the passenger version is expected to be released in the first week of May. Inside The App’s Driver-First Model

The app was launched by Union Minister Piyush Goyal in Kandivali West. According to a Hindustan Times report, the government is looking to strengthen its base and has partnered with a major auto and taxi union led by Shashank Sharad Rao, bringing permit holders onto the platform. The Bharat Taxi app is expected to enforce metre-based fares, which could help standardise pricing and improve passenger trust.

As reported by Mid-Day, the app will offer zero commission, free insurance cover of ₹5 lakh, and access to MUDRA loans to help drivers modernise or upgrade their vehicles, including a shift to electric vehicles. In a post on X, Piyush Goyal said, “This initiative is a significant step towards ensuring drivers receive fair rights and ownership for their hard work.”
