On Friday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) temporarily shut down the popular Elevated Nature Trail at Malabar Hill after a tree fell onto a section of the walkway. Read on to know more.
Malabar Nature Train Shuts Down Temporarily
As per a report by NDTV, the authorities shut down the popular trail to perform safety inspections and clearance operations. In an official update released on social media, the civic body stated that public access to the trail would remain closed until further notice until teams inspect the area and ensure visitor safety. In connection with the incident, no injuries were reported, and it occurred just ahead of Mumbai’s monsoon season.
The shutdown comes amid extensive pre-monsoon planning actions undertaken by the BMC around the tourist attraction. Civic authorities had disclosed plans for regular monitoring back in May, trimming of overhanging branches and removal of potentially dangerous vegetation. The plan aims to reduce the risk of tree-related accidents during the rainy season.
All About Mumbai’s Malabar Nature Trail
Opened to the public in March 2025, the Elevated Nature Trail has been recognised as one of Mumbai’s most frequently visited urban eco-tourism attractions. Inspired by Singapore’s treetop walk design, the trail stretches approximately 485 metres through a lush patch of urban forest on Malabar Hill. The trail offers tourists panoramic views of the Arabian Sea and the city’s skyline.
The trail passes through one of the city’s surviving green pockets and is home to several native tree species and birdlife. Environmentalists have recognised the project as a major effort to link residents with nature.
Civic officials are likely to complete a structural and environmental safety review before reopening the facility. Visitors with current bookings have been urged to check official BMC messaging channels for updates regarding the resumption of operations.
