On March 28, a massive 7.7-magnitude earthquake shook Myanmar. The devastating earthquake has already claimed more than 3,600 lives. According to the latest update, heavy rains have lashed parts of the earthquake-hit country, complicating relief efforts in the region. Scroll on to know more.

Heavy Rains Complicate Rescue Efforts In Myanmar

After the deadly earthquake, heavy rains are adding to the woes of the people of Myanmar. According to India TodayNE, heavy downpours in the region are hampering the relief efforts by the authorities. Moreover, it is also raising the risk of diseases among the population.

As per reports, aid workers in the city of Mandalay revealed that rains and winds hit tent camps in the area overnight and in the morning. It ended up soaking survivors and their belongings. Furthermore, agencies have warned the combination of unseasonable rains and extreme heat could cause outbreaks of diseases like cholera, among the survivors.

The devastating earthquake in Myanmar left many areas without power, mobile phone connections, and damaged roads and bridges. So far, the local authorities have not been able to assess the complete damage in the region.

Earthquake Death Toll Hits 3,600

As of Monday, long-shot efforts to find survivors from the Myanmar earthquake were winding down. Instead, relief and recovery activities are now taking centre stage as the death toll hits 3,600 and still climbing. In Naypyitaw, the capital city, people were seen clearing debris and collecting wood from their damaged houses during a downpour. Rescue workers and soldiers removed wreckage at some Buddhist monasteries as well.

International rescuers from Singapore, Malaysia and India also returned to their countries. As per reports, their work to find survivors was considered completed. Furthermore, the number of rescue teams operating in the residential areas of Naypyitaw has also been decreasing.
