According to an article recently published by IndiaTimes, Myanmar has recently announced that it plans to offer visas on arrival to Indian as well as Chinese passport holders. This means that Indian and Chinese passport holders will no longer have to apply for a visa in advance if they plan on visiting the country.

As of now, Indians may apply online for a visa or go to the Myanmar embassy. The visa-on-arrival facility will be offered on a one-year trial basis. The article also says that tourists will be allowed to visit all sites except some restricted areas.

This shift in their visa policy might be an attempt to attract more tourists to the country which will boost their economy. Myanmar opened to tourists back in 2011 and many tourists loved the culture and beauty of the country.

The article also says that the tourism ministry is planning on attracting more tourists from Russia as the two countries are allies. Given that the country is undergoing some political turmoil, the United States of America and even Australia have advised against visiting the country.

Tourism in Myanmar was also hit substantially by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Since then, it has been struggling to get back on track. It is hoped that the new visa-on-arrival policy will attract more tourists and encourage them to explore the beauty and culture of the country. However, travellers are advised to do thorough research before visiting.
