Though essential, monsoons can be extremely dangerous, especially around hilly areas prone to landslides. There are many reasons as to why landslides occur, however, rainfall and human activity like construction are some of the major reasons. One such tragic incident took place in Nagaland, a landslide which ended up claiming the lives of two people and injuring more. Here are all the details about the incident that you should know.

Nagaland Landslide: Boulders Tumble Downhill

This particular incident happened on National Highway 29 in Dimapur near the Old Chumoukedima police station. Around 5 PM on the 4th of July, Tuesday, massive boulders rolled downhill and ended up causing severe damage. The boulders ended up crushing cars and killing people.

It killed two people and injured three. The cars which were crushed by the boulders were coming from the Kohima side when they met with the accident. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media showing a massive boulder crushing the vehicle in the blink of an eye.

The video was captured from the dashboard of a vehicle which was right behind the cars that were crushed. The video was verified by the police, as per what ANI tweeted. The video shows two cars being crushed like paper dolls by the massive boulder.

One Person Stuck Inside A Vehicle

According to what the police said, a total of three cars were crushed. Of the four people that were impacted, one died on the spot. Two others were severely injured and were taken to Referral Hospital. One of them succumbed to their injuries and the other is still undergoing treatment.

One person, as per the police is still stuck in the car and efforts to retrieve the individual are still underway. Neiphiu Rio, the Chief Minister of Nagaland, while giving his condolences, stated that the government would take the necessary steps to ensure emergency services.

In the statement, he also said that the families of the affected would also receive an ex gratia grant of ₹4 lakhs.
