Nationwide Security Drill: What Commuters In Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru & Kolkata Need To Know

A major multi-city security drill is currently underway across India, with Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Kolkata among the key locations. The drill aims to assess emergency readiness while strengthening coordination between security agencies. While increased screening and surveillance are evident across public transport hubs, essential services such as metro, bus, and train systems remain largely unaffected, ensuring commuters continue their daily travel with minimal disruption.

Delhi Transport Services Operate Without Interruption

Delhi has adopted a coordinated strategy to support the nationwide drill without disrupting everyday commutes. According to the Hindustan Times, metro and bus services are running as per their normal schedules, with no operational changes reported. Security personnel are conducting random checks at select entry and exit points. Commuters have noticed the presence of additional police staff across major stations, but footfall remains steady and crowd management is efficient. The nationwide drill’s impact on city transport has been minimal in the capital so far.

In Mumbai, the city’s suburban train system has experienced occasional delays during high-traffic periods. These brief hold-ups are primarily due to bag screenings and movement checks at stations like Churchgate, Dadar, and Andheri. As reported by The Indian Express, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) buses continue to operate on time. Local authorities have instructed field staff to ensure that additional security measures do not impede commuter flow unnecessarily. Despite the drill, the overall nationwide drill impact on city transport in Mumbai remains well-managed.

Bengaluru has focused security efforts on its Namma Metro network, with select stations implementing visual inspections and crowd movement control. While this results in slightly longer entry times, metro frequency and service operations remain unaffected. In Kolkata, police have increased surveillance in the metro and near ferry terminals. As reported by local media outlets, trams and other public transit services continue without operational changes. Security teams are prioritising non-intrusive measures to balance safety with convenience.
