Navi Mumbai Airport To Be Operational By 2024! Here Are Details About Connectivity, Runways & More

Navi Mumbai has various transit systems, however, it lacks an airport that will connect it with other cities. However, that is going to change soon as an airport is being built in the area. Named the Navi Mumbai International Airport, it will act as a backup to the current Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai and become the second airport in the Mumbai Metropolitan Area. Here’s everything you need to know about the Navi Mumbai Airport.

Navi Mumbai Airport To Be Operational In 2024!

The Navi Mumbai International Airport will open by 2024 and would be opened by none other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. According to him, the Navi Mumbai International Airport is expected to be completed by December 2024, but the staff has been instructed to complete it sooner.

Following a helicopter overhead survey of the location, the CM made the statement. Following Shinde’s inspection, the project’s execution partner, Adani Group, also made a presentation according to an Indian Express report.

Connectivity Of The Airport

The airport will have two runways and will cover an area of 11.4 km, according to a statement from the CMO. There will be four terminals in the initial phase, with room for 42 aircraft. There will also be enough room for 5500 cars to park.

According to him, the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) will be extremely important since it will relieve some of the pressure on the Mumbai International Airport. People will soon be able to access the aerial route thanks to the project’s rapid building development and improved connectivity between Mumbai, Pune, and Goa. The 22-kilometre-long Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, which is now under development, will be accessible to those going to the airport.

According to a Times Now report, people from Pune will take two hours to reach the airport whereas, from Thane, it takes around 45 mins. The airport is located exactly 1 hour away from Mumbai. But, people from Alibaug will take around one and a half hours to reach the Navi Mumbai International Airport.
