Navi Mumbai Recognised As The Best City In Maharashtra, Municipal Commissioner Receives ₹8 Crore

Maharashtra’s Environment and Climate Change Department has recognised Navi Mumbai as the best city in the C category in Maharashtra. It has also secured second place among all the A, B, and C categories among all big city municipal corporations. The city was presented an award on June 5, World Environment Day, and the municipal commissioner received ₹8 crore as a prize.

Navi Mumbai is awarded as the best city in category C in Maharashtra. Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar, who leads the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), received the award and the cash prize. He was awarded a cash prize of ₹8 crore.

The award ceremony took place at the NCPA (National Centre for the Performing Arts), and the honour was presented by Eknath Shinde, Maharashtra’s Chief Minister. Rahul Narvekar, Assembly Minister, and many other ministers were present at the event. 

After accepting the honour, Rajesh Narvekar expressed his gratitude for the honour being presented. He acknowledged the support provided by the eco-conscious citizens of Navi Mumbai in achieving this feat. 

Promoting environmentally friendly practises and reducing air pollution has been the aim of the city.

Efforts For A Better Tomorrow

Citizens of Navi Mumbai have been working towards expanding the green belt, effective solid waste management, the elimination of single-use plastics, and the usage of eco-friendly vehicles. 

The city has planted over 2,000 trees in the last two years. They have employed the Miyawaki technique to maximise the benefits of afforestation and optimise urban space. The city has also laid emphasis on protecting land, water, fire, air, and the sky, the elements of nature. 

Panvel Municipal Corporation has taken third place in the Amrut city category, which encompasses cities with populations between 3 and 10 lakh. Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) received a reward of INR 5 crore for this accomplishment. Panvel’s municipal commissioner, Ganesh Deshmukh, accepted the honour on the organisation’s behalf.
