We asked Neeru about her childhood days in her ‘pind’ or village in Punjab. Her parents were born and raised in Punjab. They later settled in Canada for better opportunities. She revealed to us that every summer vacation was spent in her hometown.

She reminisced about how her father, without a doubt, took her to a nearby shop for some balloons and candies. This used to be the highlight of her trip to India! Neeru even recalled making some cow dung cakes with her cousins! The actor said, “It was fun! I think what we experienced as children, a lot of children, like my children, are missing.”

She is thankful to her parents for bringing her to Punjab for the summers. Now, she has fond memories of enjoying the pind life with no provision of electricity or television. We all have precious memories of summer vacations in our hometowns, right?

Continuing on the same topic, Neeru told us that she had to perfect her Punjabi for her nani. Her Punjabi parents were not so fluent in English but understood it while her nani didn’t understand it at all. She recalled how her nani would hurl rolling pins at kids who spoke in English.

The actor elaborated that conversing in English was almost like an insult to her nani. Neeru’s nani was very dear to her and she didn’t want to upset her. Therefore, she polished her Punjabi and became fluent in it.
