Recently, a video went viral on Instagram which showed a female tour guide pronouncing the full name of the famous city of Bangkok. And no, we don’t mean Krung Thep Maha Nakhon, which is also a short form. To say that it is a mouthful would be an understatement.
Krung Thep Maha Nakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayutthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathatiya Witsanukam Prasit is the full name of Bangkok.
According to an article which was recently published by The Indian Express, the purpose of such a long name was to inform the people of its renown.

It means ‘City of angles, great city of immortals, magnificent city of the nine gems, seat of the king, city of royal palaces, home of gods incarnate, erected by Vishwakarma at Indra’s behest.’
Many Netizens reacted with shock and disbelief at the video. One commenter thanked the person who decided to name it Bangkok. Others commented how the name sounds more like a rap song.
One commenter even wondered how long the tour guide must have taken to memorise the full name, and honestly? We’re wondering the same.
