New Year 2020: 7 Reasons Why I think New Year’s Eve Is Hyped

This New Year I have big plans- said almost everyone. There’s something so special and so exciting about new Year eve that people actually look forward and plan for it weeks in advance. Judge me if you want to, but, to be honest, I don’t find anything so special about New Year’s eve. According to me, New Year’s eve is a season of immense pressure. Wondering why? Well, firstly you *have to* make plans, pick the perfect outfit, and finally spend a bomb only to come back to the same life.

Here are 7 reasons why I feel New Year’s eve is overrated.

1. Yet Another Reason To Get Drunk

New Year parties are all about drinking, getting high and dancing like there’s no tomorrow- agree? After all, what better reason to get over-the-top drunk than New Year! I fully accept i’ve been there and done that too, but who would like a bad hangover on 1 January? In case you wish to avoid that, this one’s a bad bad idea. New Year us just yet another reason to get drunk and some folks in fact, take it way to seriously.

Besides, the pressure to party and get drunk is so high that all bars are packed and getting a drink would mean waiting in a long, never-ending queue. And even in that mess, some manage to get drunk. Well, if you manage to make your way back home without spilling, falling, rambling and most of all- puking, you’ve clearly succeeded. Now, that’s clearly not how I would like my New Year’s eve to be.

2. Skimpy Outfits In Cold Weather

December is cold- no matter which part of the world you are in! We all go that extra mile to look our best at the New Year party but little do we realise what we’re actually signing up for. The little black dress might look stunning from the outside, but the flip side is that you’re actually walking around in a tiny dress, with your teeth chattering cause of the biting cold. Add to that a four inch heels and you know what we’re cribbing about. Well, we’ll all do it anyways this time as well- won’t we?

3. Food, Food & More Food

Most of us might just be reeling out from all the plum cakes and Christmas feasts and now here’s another party with more food. Like it or not, we’re not going to be able to hold ourselves from that massive New Year cake and all the other junk lying around. What can be worse, especially if you’re planning to start the New Year on a ‘healthy’ note. Oh, and if you still manage to steer away from the junk, you definitely have some stellar willpower.

4. Your Bank Account Might Cry

Like all the Christmas expenses was any less! Going out and partying on New Year’s comes with a hefty price tag. Cover charge, drinks, transportation, entry tickets- all these are going to leave a huge hole in your bank account. And in case you thought house party was a safer option- wait until you make that list. Best bet- book, blanket and some music- what better way to ring yet another year!

5. Someone *WILL* Cry

For some people New Year is all about melodrama. The mistakes from the past year, patch ups, break ups, random thoughts after getting drunk- these are scenes you are bound to spot on 31 December. Oh, and lets not even get started about that ugly-pat-on-the-back reassurance that everything will be fine. And it all gets even worse if you’re in a crowd where you hardly know anyone.

6. Transportation Is A Big Pain

If getting a cab on a regular day can be a struggle, imagine what New Year’s even would like! Taxi services and cabs are bound to be over-booked. And in case a friend offers to bring his car, parking can be nothing less than a nightmare. Lastly, the thought of reaching home safe with a bunch of intoxicated friends and a semi-intoxicated driver just gives me multiple heart attacks. Like I mentioned, book + blanket = no transportation.

7. Nothing Changes

And finally when the clock strikes 12, everything and everyone are jumping, screaming and crying. But what after? Everything is the same. You still have to get back to the same office, gym, routine. You have a whole year ahead, with new challenges and new expectations to be met. Parties begin to thin out, like reality has suddenly hit us all at the same time. Well, that’s what its all about- at the end of the day, nothing changes. Happy New Year anyways!
