The Mumbai Coastal Road Project was widely hailed as a much-needed infrastructure project. Many believed that it would alleviate traffic congestion in certain areas. However, almost a month since part of the project was inaugurated, residents of Breach Candy are experiencing some of the worst traffic jams. Many have raised concerns about the planning of the structure and have alleged that it is not built in an environmentally friendly manner.

According to an article which was recently published by The Free Press Journal or the FPJ, residents of the Bhulabai Desai Road have been complaining of increased traffic congestion since the Mumbai Coastal Road opened.
its always a bad idea to open a section of long linking road. Whats the point now ???

The article also stated that many people have alleged that the reclamation built there is not environmentally friendly and is a waste of crores of rupees of public money. The article also stated that the Breach Candy Locality Forum wrote to the traffic department about the same.
Hope it is realised that what a silly decision it is to close the road with timings

Breach Candy Locality Forum is an Advance Locality Management or ALM of South Mumbai. It has around 450 buildings under its purview. The area used to be sea-facing but now faces the Coastal Road.
Residents Have Raised Concerns Over The Congestion In Area
It was a nightmare yesterday – the honking incessant till late into the night besides the added heat generated from our ICE motor vehicles as also pollution.

The area already witnesses an influx of traffic owing to the temples and hospitals in the area. Since the inauguration of the Coastal Road, residents say that the traffic congestion is worse than ever.
This road was inaugurated just for gaining political mileage, if it is to be closed in the weekend why did they opened it? Such drama is just for petty politics, shame …
— Nilesh Talekar (@vainilesh) March 17, 2024
As per a Breach Candy ALM member cited in the FPJ article, it takes a whopping 20 minutes just to take a U-turn from St. Stephen’s Church at peak hours. Many residents have also alleged that the green spaces, which were the environment-friendly facets of the bridge, have now been turned into concretised lands.
The roads in Worli were never as congested as they are since last few months.

They claim that the reclamation between Worli and Nepean Sea Road lacks enough green cover. A resident of the Bhulabai Desai Road cited in the FPJ article claimed that it was a waste of public money.
