Travellers who are arriving in Oman can bring personal belongings and gifts into the country without having to pay customs duties. However, there is a certain set of updated conditions that have been announced by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) Directorate General of Customs under Decision No. 110/2026. Here’s what these updated conditions say regarding the same.
Oman Caps Duty-Free Personal Belongings And Gifts At OMR 300
Basically, under the revised rule, as revealed by Times of Oman, the total value of duty-free personal belongings and gifts cannot exceed OMR300. Yes, and these items must be intended for personal use. Moreover, they must be carried in non-commercial quantities. The report further mentions how the regulations have also reduced the duty-free cigarette allowance. Yes, now these have been reduced from the previous 400 to 200 cigarettes per traveller.
Strict Adherence To The Limit
Quantities above the limit do not qualify for customs exemption. In addition to this, this exemption is only available to travellers who do not frequently cross customs checkpoints and who are not engaged in trading the goods they carry. The measure is aimed at preventing any misuse of personal baggage exemption for commercial import.

Travellers Must Be Aware Of Customs Rules Before Entering The Sultanate
According to the updated provisions, these form part of the broader amendments relating to executive regulations of the GCC unified customs law. It also introduces electronic customs clearance procedures and revised rules that govern temporary imports, humanitarian relief, shipments, postal consignments, and imports for persons with disabilities.
As a result, travellers have been asked to ensure that they are familiar with the revised regulation before they enter the Sultanate. This would ensure that they can have a smooth customs clearance process.
