Domestic tourism continues to be the mainstay, with a remarkable 1.93 lakh travellers opting to explore Mizoram’s captivating landscapes. This surge signifies a growing interest within India to discover the country’s hidden gems.

However, the influx of over 3,435 foreign tourists in 2023 is particularly noteworthy. Visitors from the United States topped the list, with tourists from Japan, Australia, Israel, Canada, and the United Kingdom also making Mizoram a part of their Indian adventure.

This rise in international tourism can be attributed to Mizoram’s breathtaking natural beauty. The state boasts rolling hills cloaked in emerald forests, serene valleys cradling sparkling lakes, and cascading waterfalls that plunge into crystal-clear pools.

Adventure seekers are drawn to the trekking trails that weave through the hills, offering panoramic vistas and encounters with diverse flora and fauna.

The “responsible tourism” policy implemented in 2020 by the Mizoram government is likely another contributing factor. This policy prioritises sustainable development, ensuring minimal environmental impact from tourism activities. It also emphasises community involvement, allowing local residents to benefit from the tourism industry.

Here’s a glimpse into what awaits you:

  • For the nature lover: Hike through Murlen National Park, a haven for exotic flora and fauna, or conquer the majestic Blue Mountain. Witness the stunning Vantawng Falls, a cascading marvel, or lose yourself in the serenity of Tamdil Lake, the state’s largest natural lake.
  • For the culture enthusiast: Immerse yourself in the Mizo way of life at the Reiek Heritage Village. Marvel at the architectural wonder of Solomon’s Temple, a unique blend of Mizo and Western influences.
