From there, he not only unveiled Kolkata’s underwater metro route but also inaugurated metro sections in other cities of India as well virtually.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi travelled on the country’s first underwater metro train. On this journey from Esplanade to Howrah Maidan, he was accompanied by some school students as well.
Another monumental fact about Kolkata’s new metro service is that the Howrah metro station is the deepest metro station in India.
Kolkatans and the people of West Bengal have been waiting for this day for a long time and finally, the day has come when metro trains are operating through the underground metro corridor constructed beneath the Hooghly River.

About 10.8 km of this new remarkable metro stretch is constructed underground running between Howrah Maidan and Phoolbagan.
Prime Minister Greeted Thousands Of People
A huge crowd of people from the city and nearby places was seen at India’s first underwater metro in Kolkata. They gave a grand welcome to PM Modi. From cheering “Modi-Modi” to chanting “Jai Shri Ram”, the crowd was too excited to see him. He waved them back as well.
