It all began with laughter. On the latest episode of Curly Tales Power Hour, Sara Tendulkar joins our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, for a fun and refreshing Pilates session at Sara’s very own academy. Tune in to discover the fitness secrets, wellness insights, and the effortless charm of the Pilates queen herself!
How A 12-Year Disc Injury Led Sara Tendulkar To Discover Pilates
Sara Tendulkar playfully turned interviewer for a moment, asking Kamiya if she managed to work out every day. Kamiya grinned, half-guilty and half-proud, and revealed, “Not really.” But then added, “But thanks to this new series, I’m getting to try a new form of exercise in every episode.” You could hear the spark in her voice and that giddy excitement of doing something new just for yourself.
Sara’s eyes lit up too, maybe because she recognised that same excitement. When Kamiya flipped the question back, asking her, “So how did you get into Pilates?,” Sara paused for a moment before answering. What followed wasn’t a fitness fad story; it was something more personal.
She talked about living with a disc issue that had troubled her for nearly twelve years. It was an injury that demanded patience more than strength. “I used to rely on strength training,” she said, but soon she realised that her body needed something gentler and more mindful. That’s when Pilates entered her life, not as a replacement, but as a quiet and steady companion. “A few days a week, I do Pilates; the rest, strength training. It’s this balance that’s helped me manage my back pain.”

Why Pilates Is More Than A Workout?
Kamiya Jani, our editor-in-chief, leaned in, “So how’s Pilates really different from the gym?”
Sara smiled; it was a fair question, one she must’ve answered countless times since opening her Pilates academy. “It’s lower impact than a gym workout,” she began, “and you don’t wear shoes; you can still wear Pilates socks.” But it’s not about what you wear; it’s about how you move. She explained that while gym workouts often push big muscle groups with weights, Pilates slips beneath the surface, working the smaller stabilising muscles, the ones you barely notice until they start to strengthen.
She spoke about it not like a fitness routine but a philosophy which was precise, grounding, and unexpectedly powerful. There’s so much focus involved and it teaches one control, too, not just over the body, but the mind, too.
That connection between control and calm was what made her fall in love with it so deeply that she decided to open her own Pilates academy. For her, it wasn’t about trends or training schedules; it was about finding a rhythm that could heal.

By the end of the chat, it wasn’t just a conversation about exercise anymore. It was about resilience, the kind that doesn’t yell but breathes quietly through every deliberate stretch, every slow exhale, and every movement that says: you’re stronger than you think.
