Rain Brings A Cold, Wet Winter Back To Delhi And It Is Expected To Get Worse!

While we all started preparing for the softer side of winter, the gods have other plans for us. The worst is not over yet; in fact, it’s probably yet to come. Dilli ki sardi peaked in December. Records were broken as the coldest winter in 119 years unraveled itself. Hold on to all your winter gear and add some waterproof layers as well because Delhi is in for a weather whirlpool.

Private weather agency Skymet has predicted that north India will find themselves wet and snowy. The cold spell will trickle down from Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh to rainy weather in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh and isolated places in Rajasthan till Thursday, according to reports.

NDTV reported that Delhi was under a cloud cover leading to temporary temperature rise but, now that it has rained, mercury is set to dip. The cold is about to make a comeback, Delhiites! Maximum temperature in Delhi was recorded at a normal 19.1 degree Celsius and minimum at 9.9 degrees Celsius. Weather officials informed that minimum temperature may fall to 3-4 degree Celsius by January 11. Bonfire time is getting intense!

If you were looking for a silver lining, we must shed light on the pollution capital’s Air Quality. No, it’s not better. We hoped the rain would help but toxicity is hard to get rid of. System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research reported that pollution levels have remained ‘poor’ for the third consecutive day with the air quality index at 242. American pay television channel The Weather Channel predicted hailstorms on Wednesday and dense fog on Thursday in Delhi. Orange Alert has been issued for Delhi over thundershowers accompanied with a hailstorm on Wednesday by the Indian Meteorological Department.

Hyper cozying up will be required to beat the cold this week. The weekend will hopefully bring some respite.
