Ratan Tata is an animal lover, through and through! His Instagram posts and various other initiatives have proved his love for animals time and again. Now, taking another step forward, Tata Trusts has launched its latest initiative – an animal hospital in Mahalaxmi, Mumbai. Called Small Animal Hospital Mumbai, this hospital is in line with Ratan Tata’s long quest to bring advanced healthcare for animals in Mumbai.

In an interview with Times of India, Ratan Tata said, “A pet is no different from a member of one’s family today. As the guardian of several pets throughout my life, I recognise the need for this hospital.”

The idea of this hospital was first proposed by Tata in 2017, seeing the struggle of his injured pet. However, due to the pandemic and various other factors after that, the project got delayed. Now, finally, the hospital is all set to open in the first week of March.

The hospital premises are spread across 2.2 acres of land and have been built at a cost of ₹165 crore. It will have a 24×7 emergency facility animal, one of the few in India. For now, the hospital will be treating dogs, cats, rabbits, and other small animals. It will have a capacity to accommodate 200 patients. The team here will be led by British veterinarian Thomas Heathcote.

The hospital will be ready to be inaugurated in March. So, all you pet parents in Mumbai will soon have a trustworthy facility to treat your little pets!
