Online food delivery apps have become such an integral part of our lives. From ordering breakfast early in the morning to snacks for midnight cravings, we can easily place orders on these online platforms and get everything delivered to our doorsteps in just some time. While these options have made so many things simpler, ordering online can also be an expensive affair at times. Recently, a Zomato customer shared that an order for 1 shawarma was only ₹44 less than 2 and 3 pieces.

Zomato Charged Relatively Similar Prices For 1 & Multiple Shawarma

Taking to Reddit, u/Calvin1651 shared how the food delivery platform charged for 1, 2, and 3 shawarma when ordered separately.

So for relatively same price, I can get 1,2 and 3 shawarma on Zomato (°~°)

The Redditor shared how the charges for different orders of shawarma were quite the same, even after the quantity was increasing. To make the concept simpler, the user also added a few screenshots. According to the order screenshots, the price of 1 shawarma was ₹120. With a GST of ₹6.90, a delivery partner fee of ₹82, and a platform fee of ₹5, the order total was ₹213.90.

Next, the Redditor doubled the quantity and saw the bill changing to ₹257.90 for 2 shawarma. The item total was ₹240 2ith a GST of ₹12.90 and a platform fee of ₹5. The delivery charge was free for this time.

The most shocking part is how the grand total for 2 and 3 pieces of shawarma was exactly the same while ordering on Zomato. 3 pieces cost ₹240 because of a discount of ₹120. Next, GST was ₹12.90 and a platform fee of ₹5 made the total ₹257.90. With the discount of ₹120, the user was getting 2 and 3 shawarma for the same price.

Netizens React To The Reddit Post

Looks like the issue of restaurants charging more on online orders is not something new and has been faced by many consumers. In response to this Reddit post, many Redditors commented about their experiences. Somewrote wrote that restaurants often charge 60 per cent higher than the offline menu. Many Redditors stated how they prefer visiting restaurants and opting for takeaways these days as platforms like Zomato charge additional costs. Many even slammed by calling all these a way of looting customers.
