The government of Punjab has now permitted restaurants, hotels and marriage ceremony halls to operate with limited capacity. However, people need to abide strictly by the protocols of safety and social distancing. Bars will continue to remain closed. But the excise department has permitted liquor to be served in restaurants. Delivery of liquor to hotel rooms will also be allowed. Read on to know the details.
Restaurants, Hotels And Banquet Halls In Punjab To Operate With Limited Capacity
The new guidelines issued by the Punjab government for restaurants, hotels and banquet halls are as follows:
- Restaurants in Punjab can now function with 50 guests or 50 percent of the seating capacity, whichever is less. The eateries can remain open till 8 PM.
- Social functions like marriages in banquet halls and open-air parties can take place with a maximum of 50 guests. This number is exclusive of the catering staff.
- To ensure that adequate social distancing is maintained, the venue size has to be a minimum of 5,000 square feet.
- Bars will remain closed.
- Alcohol can be served in restaurants and functions. They can also be delivered to hotel rooms.
Punjab CM Amarinder Singh recently took to micro-blogging site Twitter to announce the guidelines. In the tweet, he said, “Keeping in view the concerns of the industry and MHA instructions, we have decided to reopen hotels, restaurants, marriage halls and other hospitality services at reduced 50% capacity. However, establishments must adhere to the SoP and observe full precautions.”

Adhering to the guidelines of the centre, Punjab had allowed certain relaxations for its citizens for the lockdown extended till June 30. Earlier in June, hotels and eateries in Punjab were allowed to operate without the dine-in facility. As part of the new guidelines issued by the Department of Home Affairs and Justice, the government has urged the management of hotels and other hospitality services to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). District authorities are also directed to ensure the compliance of the SOPs and guidelines.
