Yes, as announced by Diriyah Company and the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, there will soon be a Royal Diriyah Opera House that will be a first-of-its-kind arena for creative arts in the kingdom.

With plans to be built near the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Al Turaif, this will be designed by Snøhetta. And this is a world-renowned architectural firm and it will be provided expert help from Riyadh-based syn architects. This announcement was made during the Bashayer 2023 event wherein several exciting details were also revealed.
Talking about the opera house, it will be spread over 46,000 m² and can accommodate 3,500 people across four venues. And this also includes a 2000-seat theatre for large-scale productions and headline artists. As such, the proposal itself is deeply rooted in the surrounding desert landscape and local cultural heritage. With Najdi building traditions, the firm is designing an opera house, which will be located in the pre-historic era of Diriyah.

At this point, it’s worth noting that it is expected that the opera house will open in 2028, thereby creating a new stage for future generations of performers, cultural exchange, and audiences. It should also be noted that the property is being designed as a cluster of buildings. Yes, these will be interconnected by open passages, offering shielded relief from the intense Saudi sun. Moreover, the green garden that will be open to visitors of the opera house and the wider public will also add to its beauty. As it will integrate these public spaces, cultural and recreational experiences are certainly going to enhance the intrinsic value of the location.

The Diriyah Project, which is the PIF’s fifth giga project will also be opening soon. It’s no secret that Wadi Safar project updates were also announced. Yes, three of its planned 42 hotels were also mentioned – the Aman, Oberoi, and Six Senses at Wadi Safar, all of which will be located in the area.
Moreover, it will also feature world-class entertainment and sports facilities like the Royal Diriyah Golf Club and the Royal Diriyah Equestrian and Polo Club. Both of these will be a testament to Diriyah’s growing status as a premier destination for sports and leisure. In case you weren’t aware, this event is a chance to explore and discover both Wadi Safar’s area master plan. Not to mention, this also showcases Diriyah’s unwavering commitment towards creating spaces that can transient the ordinary.
