‘Hum Tum, Ek Kamre Mein Ho Band Ho, Aur Lockdown Ho Jaaye’, what seemed to be every couple’s fantasy or worst nightmare, has actually come true. Couples across the world have now no choice but to stay at home with each other for weeks together courtesy the coronavirus lockdown. While some of you are collaborating on household chores, cooking, working from home together, many more have decided to turn to porn, sex dolls, sex toys, or all of the above. From New Zealand, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Australia to India people from countries across the world, are making the most of this lockdown period.

New Zealand announced a country-wide lockdown from 25th March to stop contain the deadly virus. And people from countries like the USA were rushing to pile up on toilet paper, the Kiwis had other plans. New Zealanders went on a shopping spree for sex toys just 48 hours before the one-month lockdown commenced. It’s interesting to note that the sale of sex toys tripled in just two days. People wanted to try their hand at something new and escape the monotony of staying at home for days. They stocked up on beginner level sex toys, lubes, condoms and adult board games as a part of their Covid extracurricular activities. But they were also cautious about hygiene so disinfectants to clean the sex toys were also on the shopping list.

In Australia and the UK, a website selling sex toys noticed a surge in their business. Sales doubled as soon as announcements were made to shut down bars and pubs. The Danes are also not behind when it comes to personal pleasure. One of the most popular sex toy websites has witnessed a 110% rise in business. And a sex toy rating website has seen users triple during this lockdown period. Countries like Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands has witnessed a significant increase in porn viewership. Since sex work has been banned to combat the viral outbreak, people have resorted to other outlets. An increase of 6 to 14 per cent in porn viewership has been registered by these countries after the temporary ban on sex work.

In early March, Italy, Spain and France first declared social distancing measures to combat coronavirus. PornHub immediately announced free premium services for people in these countries.
