The All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has taken a conscious decision of adding more healthy food options to its hostel mess and canteen. According to AIIMS Director M Srinivas, the canteen and hostel mess menus have limited and common snack items like kachoris and samosas, which are considered unhealthy. So, on the 8th of February, AIIMS issued a notice to the canteen to include more healthy food items on the menu. Now, there will be food options like poha, upma, boiled milk, sprouts, salads, fruits and so on.

Reason For This Decision

As for the reason behind this decision, the doctors and other employees are responsible for taking care of the patient. And giving them healthy food will help in increasing their immunity. The other cafeterias, including the MCH block, Surgical block, and others, have been directed to serve healthy food options.

Eating tasty food is what we are looking for. But, should we compromise our health for taste? Healthy food options can be tasty as well if prepared correctly. Most school and college canteens serve fried and processed food options instead of healthy ones. And it is the duty of the administration to pay attention to children’s nourishment. Including sprout bhel or fruit chaat can ensure that students are getting proper nourishment.
