Bachchan To Narrate Stories Of Goutam Buddha At Sarnath’s Dhamekh Stupa
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the light and sound show at Dhamekh Stupa in Sarnath, Uttar Pradesh on November 2. The light and sound show in the historic Buddhist site will take place daily between 7.30 PM and 8 PM. And the voice of the show will be none other than the baritone of the renowned actor Amitabh Bachchan. The entire project has cost around ₹7.88 crores and the tourism department expects that it will attract a good number of visitors. The Light And Sound Show To Attract More Tourists Post Sunset
According to a Hindustan Times report, Keertiman Srivastava, the regional tourism officer, has said, “The show is a retelling of Lord Buddha’s life and his preaching. Sarnath is a holy site, where Lord Buddha had delivered his first sermons.” Srivastava added, “The show will give a boost to tourism. A large number of international tourists visit Sarnath. However, most of them visit during the day. Their footfall is likely to increase in the evening because of the show.” The entry to the show was free for the visitors on the first day.

Sarnath, nestled at the confluence of the Ganga and the Varuna rivers, is just 10 kilometres away from the city of Varanasi. Sarnath has a deer park where Gautam Buddha is believed to have first taught his Dharma. On the inaugural day, Varanasi divisional commissioner Deepak Agarwal, UP minister for tourism Neelkanth Tiwari, Varanasi DM Kaushalraj Sharma and many other officers watched the light and sound show. Tourism officer Srivastava has stated, “Visitors will get to know more about the importance of historical monuments in Sarnath and Lord’s Buddha’s life.” Also, here the top 11 places in Varanasi you must visit:
