Several Countries Issue Travel Advisory For India In The Wake Of Protests Over CAA

In the wake of the ongoing protests in India against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), several countries have issued a travel advisory for India. One of them is UAE, where the embassy in New Delhi which issued a recent travel advisory for its citizens who are heading to or are in India currently. The advisory has notified its citizens to not visit crowded places, to remain alert and also get in touch with the UAE embassy for further information. And UAE is just one of the several countries who have issued travel advisories for India.

What’s In It?

Apart from UAE, the US government too has issued advisory and warned its citizens against visiting the North Eastern region of India due to the protests over CAA. The streets of North East are filled with thousands of protesters, raising their voices against the CAA, which has resulted in clashes with the police and has turned into a chaotic situation. Delhi too witnessed a similar situation recently where public buses were burnt, police used tear gas to disseminate protesters. When the protestors clashed against the police there have been cases of injury in these situations.

On witnessing the travel advisory issued for India by the USA, Canada to has warned its citizens from travelling to Northeast India. They have requested their citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Northeast India. Citizens are requested to avoid travelling to Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland according to the travel advisory issued by the Canada Embassy in India. They have further informed their citizens about the internet and mobile communications being temporarily disbanded and that there might be a lack of proper transport facilities in several parts of this region due to the unrest.

After UAE, the USA and Canada, the UK too have advised its citizens from travelling to the Northeastern states of India especially to Manipur and Assam as they might still experience sudden outbreaks of violence. They have advised citizens to carefully review their security arrangements, to avoid large crowds and to seek due advice from local authorities. The advisory added that demonstrations against the Citizenship Amendment Bill(CAB) were taking place in some parts of the country. And there have been violent protests in North East India, especially in Assam and Tripura. An indefinite curfew has been imposed in Guwahati, Assam and mobile internet services have also been temporarily suspended in 10 districts of the state. Transport too has been affected in the region. So citizen of the UK must exercise caution if they are planning to visit North-East India. The local media should be monitored for the latest information, instruction of the local authorities must be followed.
