What Is Sharjah Police’s Family Awareness Drive & Why It Matters For Safer Homes?

Sharjah is putting families front and centre again. And this time, Sharjah Police has kicked off a month-long awareness push called “Awareness Begins at Home”. It’s getting parents and kids to actually sit down, talk, and figure things out together. It’s part of the UAE’s wider focus on the “Year of the Family”.

Emirati Parents, It Starts With You

The whole idea is simple. Kids don’t magically pick up values from thin air. Most of it comes from what they see at home. Authorities are basically saying, before schools step in, before society shapes anything, it’s families doing the heavy lifting.

The campaign, supported by groups like the Ministry of Education and Sharjah Private Education Authority, is trying to make that responsibility a bit more practical. Not just “be a good parent”, but how. Think about everyday things, talking things through, setting boundaries and actually paying attention.

Kids Are Watching, Even When You Think They’re Not

There’s also a strong focus on behaviour. Not in a preachy way, but more like small habits matter.

Brigadier Faisal bin Nassar, who’s leading the effort from the community protection side, says they’re pushing simple messages to both parents and children.

Pick your friends wisely. Don’t get lost in your phone. Use tech, don’t let it use you. That last bit? Probably hits home for a lot of families right now. Also, it’s not just about warning kids. Parents are expected to keep up too. Tech isn’t going anywhere, so understanding it is part of the job now.

Not Just Online Posts, They’re Showing Up Too

Yes, there’ll be social media content: short videos, quick tips, the usual. But it’s not staying online. There are workshops, talks, and community sessions planned across Sharjah. Some are for parents, while some are for kids, and some are for both, which honestly makes more sense.

Groups like the Child Safety Department and Sharjah Children are also involved, so it’s a fairly wide net. The idea is to reach people where they are, not expect them to go digging for advice.

So… Will People Actually Engage?

Officials are encouraging parents to take part rather than just scroll past. Open conversations at home are a big part of this. Not one lecture and done; instead, rely on ongoing chats. For many families, that’s easier said than done. Life gets busy, kids shut down, and parents get tired. But still, the message is clear: if things go wrong later, it often traces back to what didn’t happen at home earlier.

And that’s exactly what this campaign is trying to fix.
