Hyderabad recently witnessed a major weather pattern change. The city was experiencing a super-hot day when, suddenly, after a thunderstorm, its Outer Ring Road (ORR) was seen covered in ice. Videos going viral online claimed that it was snowfall, leading to confusion among many residents. But no, the ice was actually due to hailstones. Here’s more on this.
Videos Show Snowfall In Hyderabad
Climate in Hyderabad is hitting different.
It’s April we’re supposed to be melting in 40-degree heat, but it’s snowing on the ORR instead pic.twitter.com/1YvacSzc0L— Chandana 🌻✨ (@RoseOnX9) April 28, 2026
Many videos are going viral online showing residents of Hyderabad playing with ice on the ORR. The road was completely covered in white, making it look as if snowfall had happened. But according to Oneindia, meteorologists have clarified that the phenomenon was hail and not snowfall. Snowfall requires temperatures of 0°C or below to form, which does not happen in Hyderabad during peak summer. A video posted on X by @RoseOnX9 shows a man playing with ice on the ORR.
Hailstones fell to the ground after they developed in the colder upper layers of the atmosphere, where temperatures can drop significantly. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast temperatures crossing 40°C for Hyderabad. Despite the intense daytime heat, the city may still see cloudy skies along with light rain and thunderstorms in some areas.
