Srinagar International Airport Witnesses Busiest Day In History With 15,000 Passengers

Direct international flights  between Srinagar and has resumed operations after a two-month break. GoFirst was the first airline to launch direct service on this route last year. As Jammu and Kashmir set foot into the international aviation map, the Ministry of Civil Aviation had given a green signal for the launching of the first commercial flight services between the two destinations of India and UAE respectively. This, will be a historical step in J&K’s economic growth and development as Kashmir becomes more accessible to foreign tourists. Interestingly, the Srinagar International Airport witnessed the busiest day in history after it handled 15,014 passengers, boarding 90 flights to fly in and out of Kashmir. Currently, the airport can handle only 7000 passengers on a daily basis. Work will soon commence constructing a new terminal in the airport to accommodate more passengers.

No Evening Flights From Srinagar On Weekends

There will be no evening flights in Srinagar over the weekends for the next two months. This is because the Srinagar airport runway is undergoing renovation. The repair work will be underway on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in the next two months. Srinagar airport runway will be operated from 6 AM to 5 PM daily.

The Government Is Investing ₹1500 Crore To Improve The Infrastructure At Srinagar Airport

Keeping in mind the heavy volume of business between traders from Sirigar and Sharjah, the Middle Eastern city was chosen as the first destination. According to reports, the immigration infrastructure is already in place looking at the demand for business-related travel between the two cities. Sharjah will also serve as a convenient transit point to reach Dubai and Abu Dhabi respectively.

As international travel resumes at Srinagar airport, the terminal at the Srinagar airport is all set to be expanded from 25000 sq m to 63000 sq m. The government will invest ₹1500 crore at the Srinagar airport.
