Come June, a visit to the iconic Eiffel Tower will become more expensive. The Paris City Hall has decided on a 20% hike in ticket prices for adults to reach the top of the tower. Currently, the entry ticket to the historical tower is €29.40 (₹2,650). With the price hike, this ticket will cost €35.30 (₹3,182) from June 17.

Furthermore, as per reports, the Paris City Council has also backed the recapitalisation of Eiffel Tower operator SETE. They have decided to lower the annual fee it charges the operator for running this famous monument. This move comes after low tourist turnout during the COVID-19 pandemic and renovation costs pushed SETE into debt. The Société d’Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel (SETE) operates, maintains, and runs events at the Eiffel Tower as part of a delegated public service contract with the city of Paris.

Why Did The Paris City Hall Decide To Increase The Ticket Price?

The Paris authorities decided to increase ticket prices for the Eiffel Tower to help pay for urgent renovation work of the monument. According to data, the Eiffel Tower experienced a shortfall of around €120 million in 2020 and 2021 due to the global pandemic.

Furthermore, the maintenance union of the tower feels that the previous recapitalisation of €60 million was “insufficient given the need for major maintenance work.” This includes a fresh paint job. This architectural marvel by Gustave Eiffel is recommended to undergo repainting every seven years to prevent rust. While it has been repainted 19 times since its construction in 1889, it has not received a full paint job since 2010.
