Stock Up! Bangalore To Have Alcohol Ban On These Days In June

Bangalore is set to experience a dry spell in the first week of June, with a five-day ban on alcohol sales in place. This restriction comes into effect due to the upcoming Karnataka Legislative Council elections and the vote counting for the Lok Sabha elections.

The restrictions kick in on Friday, 1st June, at 4 pm. The sale of all alcoholic beverages, including beer, wine, and spirits, will be prohibited until 4 pm on Sunday, 3rd June. This 48-hour dry period coincides with the polling dates for the Karnataka Legislative Council elections.

But that’s not all. As the counting of votes for the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections falls on Tuesday, 4th June, another 24-hour dry spell is in place. This means no alcohol sales will be allowed from midnight on 3rd June until midnight on 4th June.

Adding another layer to the restrictions, a final dry day has been declared for Monday, 6th June. This is due to the counting of votes for the MLC elections happening on the same day. The sale of alcohol will be banned from 6 am on 6th June until midnight.

The dry days encompass all forms of alcohol sales, including those at standalone liquor stores, bars, pubs, restaurants, and hotels. It’s important to note that while bars and pubs may remain operational during these periods, they will be strictly prohibited from serving any alcoholic drinks. Patrons can still enjoy food and non-alcoholic beverages.

The Bengaluru Urban District administration has imposed these restrictions to maintain law and order during the elections and vote counting. The rationale behind dry days is to curb potential incidents of violence or disorderly behaviour that might be fuelled by alcohol consumption.

While some may welcome the break from alcohol, the ban is certain to impact businesses that rely on alcohol sales. Restaurants, pubs, and liquor stores can expect a dip in revenue during this dry spell. Stockpiling in advance or planning alternative events and promotions might be a way for businesses to mitigate the impact.
