Traveller Pooja Sanwal (@poojaasanwal) shared a post on X comparing the price of a croissant at Hyderabad and Zurich airports. She said she paid ₹184 for a croissant at Hyderabad Airport. Earlier this year, she bought the same snack at Zurich Airport for around ₹142. 

The price difference surprised Pooja, and she questioned how India was becoming so expensive so quickly. Her post soon went viral and sparked a debate online. While many agreed that everyday expenses in India are rising, others felt the comparison was unfair because croissants are much more common in Europe.

One user wrote, “Croissants have always been expensive in India. You can go almost anywhere in Europe and find a croissant for ₹90 to ₹120. It’s their dal chawal. There are so many bakeries, and almost every bakery makes them. In India, it’s still a premium snack.”

One user revealed, “Get a croissant in Bandra and it’s ₹380 + GST.”
