Taiwan To Reduce Quarantine Period To 10 Days For Tourists From March

Taiwan is taking baby steps to reopen the borders to the world and resume a normal life. The nation is relaxing the restrictions and reducing the quarantine period to 10 days for tourists from March. Taiwan had enforced two-week quarantine since the start of the pandemic. So far, Taiwan’s strict quarantine policy helped in keeping reported covid cases below 20,000.

Covid-19 pandemic wrecked the world, be it the US, UK, UAE or Japan- no one was spared from the wrath of this virus. And while countries across the globe are still suffering amid the pandemic, Taiwan was one of the first countries to beat covid last year. However, covid cases in Taiwan were on the rise. To curb the further spread of the virus, Taiwan had banned international travel.

Taiwan Had Banned International Travel 

Taiwan had banned foreigners without local residency from entering the island for a month. The local daily cases in Taiwan reached a new peak, which was a cause of concern for the authorities. On this, the Taiwan Center for Disease Control (CDC) said in a statement,

“Because of the rising COVID-19 epidemic situation both domestically and internationally, to safeguard the domestic epidemiological situation and the health of our citizens, our nation will introduce the following border control restrictions from May 19.”

Only Residents Were Allowed To Enter Taiwan

Foreigners who did not have valid resident permits were bot allowed to enter the island. Besides this, the passengers’ flight transit through Taiwan were also discontinued. Only essential workers, locals with a resident visa were allowed to enter Taiwan amid the ban.
