When any national team wins a cup for the country, the feeling of elation that comes along is truly unparalleled. And in recent times, with all the new reforms in Saudi Arabia, women are also now able to compete with their counterparts to bring in national glory. Creating a milestone, the country has now sent its first female tennis team to a global tennis event. Here’s all about this monumental development.

In an exciting development, Saudi Arabia has sent its first female team to a global tennis tournament. Yes, four Saudi players will be taking part in the Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers, for the junior category. It’s happening in Colombo, Sri Lanka and the team will be partaking in Asia/Oceania pre-qualifying event. Happening this week, it’s a milestone for the country as this is Saudi’s first women’s team that’s visiting the International Tennis Federation event.

This is a big step for women, as the recent reforms in the country have opened better avenues for women in sports as well, including women’s football team. Did you know Saudi Arabia’s women’s football team played their first match in the February of 2022? Yes, so it’s hardly surprising that the four-player female tennis team participating in the event is pumped for this, as it is certainly an empowering experience.

All About Billie Jean King Cup Juniors

For those who aren’t aware, Billie Jean King Cup Juniors is a junior tennis event, wherein players 16 years of age and under can participate. Did you know it was previously known as Federation Cup (1963-1995) and Fed Cup (1995-2020)? Yes, the tournament was later rebranded in the year 2020, to align with the global icon, Billie Jean King. He is an American former tennis player who’s held the number 1 position!
