The covid-19 pandemic has affected the world in various ways. People not only lost the freedom to travel and meet with people, but some of them also lost their jobs, which majorly affected their lifestyle. However, amid all this, some countries worked their way around the pandemic and have made their way to become the most expensive places in the world. Here’s everything you must know about it.

Shanghai, Tokyo,  Hong Kong, Monaco And Taipei Round Up The Top Five List

A detailed Bank Julius Baer’s Global Wealth and Lifestyle Report 2021 has categorised countries based on its swift response to the pandemic, maintenance of the overall stability and the cost of luxury goods in the region. And on the list, Shanghai, China- has topped the list. The list comprises the most expensive place to live as a wealthy individual, and Shanghai has paved its way to the top.

Hong Kong, which was on number one last year, slipped to third place, while Tokyo held constant in the second position. Whereas- Monaco in Western Europe and Taipei in Taiwan rounded up the top five.

Dubai Climbed Five Postions From 17th to 12th Spot

Zurich, Paris, London, Singapore and New York made it to the top 10 list, whereas Dubai showed a significant jump. The emirate climbed five positions from 17th spot to 12th in the most expensive city list. Not only Dubai, but Bangkok, Sydney, Milan and Barcelona, also made it to the top 15 list. Besides this, Mumbai from India also made it to the list and bagged 22nd position.

Mumbai Made It To The List With 22nd Position

On this, Rajesh Manwani, head of markets and wealth management solutions for Asia-Pacific at Bank Julius Baer, said, 

“Covid didn’t become an epidemic (in Asia) in quite the same way as the other countries in the index.” 

And now in terms of the cheapest places to live in, the Americas, hard hit by the pandemic, appeared as the cheapest region to live a luxury lifestyle, as the U.S. and Canadian dollars fell against other major global currencies.  The pandemic impacted all the countries, but the U.S was definitely hit hard.
