The V-Day Gift No One Wanted! Air NZ Flight Cancelled; Passengers Asked To Share Rooms With Others

Imagine you are staying at a hotel and enjoying some cosy time and all of a sudden you have been asked to share the room with some unknown people. Sounds unbelievable and quite a miserable experience, right? Well, something very similar happened with some flyers of Air New Zealand on Valentine’s Day. On this day of love, many Air NZ passengers had to face something weird when they were asked to share hotel rooms with strangers.

50 passengers ready to board an Air New Zealand flight to Kerikeri on February 14 were surprised to hear that their flight had been cancelled in the afternoon. There was a mechanical glitch on Flight NZ8270, according to a report by the NZ Herald. There was a flight delay and another major problem was only a limited number of replacement planes available at that moment. Also, there was no driver to provide services. As there was no other option in hand, Air NZ sent all these passengers to the Auckland airport hotel to spend the night.

Well, this was quite shocking news until they were informed about something more surprising. On already hampered Valentine’s Day, these passengers had to share hotel rooms that night. While checking in at the accommodation properties of the Auckland airport, the concerned authorities asked the passengers to make friends and pair up with others to share hotel rooms.

Some passengers checked into the Pullman Auckland Airport. Some got vouchers to stay at the Sudima Hotel and spend the night. The news of sharing rooms with some unknown people came as a massively unexpected shock for everyone stuck in that situation. On Wednesday, there was not much option in hand other than this step.

Not everyone agreed with opening their rooms’ doors to others. A passenger shared with the NZ Herald how she did not share the room for safety and privacy reasons. Later, the general manager of the hotel had a conversation with Air New Zealand and mentioned how they could not let unknown people stay together.

About 4 passengers got individual rooms at around 11 PM. Apart from accommodation, the airline offered food vouchers worth $90, a coach service to Kerikeri, and more.
