Economist Intelligence has released its annual Global Liveability Index. This list ranks 173 cities across the world on the basis of living stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure. After thorough analysis, Vienna was named the world’s most liveable city in 2024. On the other hand, Damascus in Syria was ranked as the least livable city in the world. Global Liveability Index 2024 Unveil World’s Most Liveable Cities

The Global Liveability Index 2024 is out and it has unveiled the list of the world’s most liveable cities. For the third consecutive year, Vienna has secured its position as the world’s most liveable city! In fact, western Europe has maintained its position as the most liveable region in the world. Cities like Copenhagen, Zurich, and Geneva made it to the top ten list of the world’s most liveable cities.

Interestingly, this year’s report has revealed an increase in average scores. This is mainly because of the improvements in healthcare and education in developing countries. However, this upward trend was counterbalanced by declines in scores for several top-tier cities. This decline was mainly observed in the stability category. On the global level too, living stability proved to be the biggest declining factor of all the five categories.

10 Least Liveable Cities In The World In 2024

The Sub-Saharan Africa and Middle East and North Africa region dominated the bottom of the Global Liveability Index 2024. Syria’s Damascus maintained its position as the world’s least liveable city on this year’s list as well. The city particularly scored poorly in the stability and healthcare categories. Economist Intelligence also noted that none of the bottom four cities on the list has seen any improvement in its overall score since last year.
