The 21- day countrywide lockdown has created a survival crisis among many, especially the ones who are underprivileged. Among them are the daily wagers who have been stranded in the city now with no food, money or shelter. Being helpless, they aren’t even able to adhere to the motto behind the lockdown i.e social distancing. Seeing the plight of these unfortunate people, many renowned eateries in the city are lending a helping hand.
Here are some names, those who are going the extra mile now to combat hunger issues:
1. Matamaal
Sikandarpur based eatery Matamaal has tied up with the non-monetary distribution NGO Robin Hood Army to roll out meals for the homeless migrant workers. They are even delivering parcels to the nearby slums. That’s not all. They have joined hands with the Karma Animal Foundation of Sohna road to distribute food among the stray dogs as well. 2. QD’s
Noticing several migrant labourers walking through the streets of the city during the lockdown, QD’s restaurant started cooking meals for them in its kitchens around Delhi. Initially, they were making 1000 meals a day. After putting up a post on social media about their initiative, they started getting calls from various contributors as well as workers. Now the count of distributed meals has gone up to around 3000. Every day, the guys out here directly deliver 300 meals to the Mayapuri region and 200 meals to Kotla ( 100 for lunch, 100 for dinner).
They have also tied up with NGOs like Robin Hood Army, Masakkali, Team Khadim, Paigam and Srijan Foundation to send parcels across places like Kashmiri Gate, Kabir Nagar, Talabpur, Lawrence Road, Jehangirpuri and GTB Nagar, among many others. 3. Cafeteria and Co.
Cafeteria and Co. has its outlets in Satyaniketan, Hudson lane and Cyber Hub. Though the cafes have been shut down amid the curfew, their kitchens are still open to serve the needy. 4. Ricos
Ricos is another most loved American-Italian cafeteria among the foodies of Delhi. Their first outlet was in Hudson Lane, and now a new one has come up at Kamla Nagar. 5. Massive Restaurants
Zorawar Kalra has several famous restaurants that are part of its group: Massive Restaurants. It includes popular places like Masala Library, Pa Pa Ya, Made in Punjab and Farzi Cafe. The owner of the chain of restaurants had informed a few days back that the group will be donating around 4000 to 5000 meals a day across Gurgaon and Mumbai. Inspired by the langers in the gurdwaras that feed the impoverished for free, the restaurant chain has taken up the initiative.
6. Big City Pizza
Big City Pizza is one of the popular pizza delivery chains that has multiple delivery outlets across Gurgaon, Noida and Delhi. The group has been serving snacks in the evening to the policemen who are on duty in the vicinity of the pizza kitchens. They are following the strict guidelines of WHO for normal home deliveries as well.
