Gaur Gopal Das’s Attire Of Orange Dhoti-Kurta

Guruji Gaur Gopal Das donned a crisp orange-coloured kurta and dhoti with a pair of comfortable sandals with cream-coloured socks. This has been his basic attire for the day for quite a while now. Kamiya wanted to learn about his explanation for wearing this significant orange dhoti-kurta every day.

He educated us on how monks have to wear a certain kind of attire because of the beliefs they have. The path that Gaur Gopal Das follows has the orange dhoti-kurta as the official monk dress. He told us that he was assigned this dress code around 26 years ago for the rest of his life!

He widened his eyes and said, “Can you imagine I have worn orange for 26 years?” with a grave emphasis on the number of years.

He continued sharing more about the significance of his orange dhoti-kurta. Firstly, he mentioned that his colour resembles an orange flame. Then, he talked about the Hindu tradition of cremating the deceased and not burying them in the ground.

He said, “The body is consumed by the flames of the fire which are orange in colour. So adorning this colour means I am dead.” He elaborated that death here means the death of his worldly pleasures.

“Now, my life is meant to live for others,” he said. He continued, “It’s death to myself and a new life to live for others. That’s what his attire represents!” This is quite interesting!
