Sachin Tendulkar’s Parents Did This

Kamiya shared that watching Sachin play with such enthusiasm and grace for our Indian cricket team inspired so many kids out there.  She also mentioned that parents are not always supportive towards a career in sports and would prefer their kids to choose 9-to-5 corporate or government jobs.

In response, Sachin told us that this mindset is no more given the diverse job profiles available now. He continued that he was immensely grateful for his parents as they were completely supportive of his career choice since his childhood. Through cricket, he was able to express himself and be what he wanted to be in the 1980s.

Sachin Tendulkar mentioned that his parents gave him the freedom to pick up a bat and make an unbelievable career out of it. He doesn’t have a sports background as his father was a professor and writer by profession and his mother was in an insurance company.

So, letting Sachin be on the cricket field was a huge decision for his parents. Because he agreed with Kamiya that back in the 1980s, the choice was limited to mainstream jobs like doctor, lawyer and engineer. He acknowledged that to handle a bat for the rest of your life in the 80s was a big decision.
