Sheermal, a saffron-flavored traditional roti from Lucknow and Hyderabad made its way to Delhi’s Jama Masjid in no time. Today, there are many places in Old Delhi that make it but the essence that Chacha has, none of the do. Hakeem Muhammed Ashwaq Habibullah, who runs Meerut’s famous Sikander Sheermal is an old man that serves this delight stuffed with dry fruits.
How Is It Prepared
It is a mildly sweet naan made out of maida and baked in a tandoor or oven. Sheermal, traditionally was made like roti. At Chacha’s you will find three different varieties of it – Pista, Badam (almonds) and Kaju (cashew). The dough for all three is same and the dry fruits doesn’t overpower the taste. For a layman, it’s kind of a roti that is covered with a lot of dry fruits and it doesn’t stop there. This heavy dry-fruit laden roti is then dipped in ghee and served.
Sikander Sheermal has been selling these for years now. Originated in Meerut, these thick rotis are so deliciously addictive ans sufficient that you can enjoy them without any curry. The sweet milky roti can usually be found in Okhla near South Delhi or at the Matia Mahal Bazaar in Old Delhi.
It is popularly known among Delhiites as Dry fruits Parantha. You can find them stacked on dhaba counters, covered with a protective net-like material.

This elderly man from Meerut sells these delicious sheermals at very reasonable price that too on his ‘home delivery’ scooter. Yep, the scooter is also his shop! Those who love indulging in food without worrying about calories and desi ghee, then these hot sheermals will be an absolute treat for you.
