Heads Up, Mumbai! Western Railway Block To Disrupt Andheri–Borivali Route; How Many Trains Cancelled?

In Mumbai, local trains are called the ‘lifeline’ of the city. People rely on them daily, whether they are going to the office, meeting friends, shopping, and more, to avoid getting stuck in heavy road traffic. However, this weekend on March 28 and 29, train services on the suburban network will not run as usual. Read to know more!

Western Railway Mumbai Local Train Services Disrupted

As infrastructure work is still underway, Western Railway has planned a 19-hour block between Andheri and Borivali. As per Mid Day, because of this, no trains will run on platforms 1 and 2 at Borivali during the block period. Several suburban train services will be affected, so expect some changes in your travel plans. Many trains will be cancelled, while some will run only for shorter distances. A few services will stop at stations like Andheri and Goregaon instead of completing their full route. This will impact travel across the entire corridor, so planning ahead will really help.

Officials have already made a proper list of all the changes, so it’s not confusing for passengers. This list includes which trains are cancelled, which ones will run for shorter routes, and where some trains will now start from. If you’re unsure about your train, you can simply check with the station master at your nearby station, they’ll have all the details to guide you.

How Many Trains Will Remain Cancelled?

To make things clearer, the railway has also shared the numbers. Around 45 trains will be cancelled on Saturday, but Sunday will see a bigger impact with 254 services not running. To make things a bit easier for passengers, officials will also run 25 extra trains during this time, so you still have some options to manage your travel.

All 15-car slow local trains will operate like fast trains between Andheri and Borivali, in both UP and DOWN directions during the block. The ongoing work include, Harbour Line extension. Workers will install PSC slabs and ballast retainers on Bridge No. 56A between Malad and Kandivali.

Another important update is at Kandivali station. Officials will place a girder for a deck span between points C16 and C17 on platform 1 as part of ongoing station upgrades. Along with this, a separate block is also planned for the same work. It will take place between 2:00 am and 7:30 am on the same day.

So, if you’re planning to travel by local train, make sure you check the schedule!
