Karnataka Govt Announces Free Bus Passes For Students
As per a report by India Today, DK Shivakumar scheme also promises a state-backed private employment exchange, youth empowerment schemes and other important infrastructure spending. Announcing the initiatives after chairing his first Cabinet meeting, Shivakumar said the government was ushering in a new “Youth Era” focused on delivering promises through action.
Among the key decisions was the rollout of free bus passes for students across Karnataka. The benefit will be available on non-luxury state-run buses, with students required to apply for passes. Shivakumar said the move was aimed at ensuring equal travel benefits for all students and insisted that financial constraints would not stand in the way of the scheme’s implementation.
Not only this, but to overcome unemployment, the government also proposed setting up a state-backed employment exchange to connect job seekers with opportunities in the private sector. The Chief Minister stated that the recruitment for 56,000 government vacancies is underway, with a schedule for appointments to be announced shortly. The framework for the employment exchange is expected to be finalised within a month.
