Planning to visit beautiful Sikkim anytime soon? Then this is for you! The destination is actively setting up a new integrated online permit system to make travel approval digital and a lot more transparent. This tourist permit will also ensure that approvals are done more efficiently. Here’s everything you need to know.

Sikkim Plans New Online Tourist Permit System

Sikkim is a small state in Northeast India, nestled in the beautiful Himalayan mountains. The place enjoys huge popularity among tourists for being less crowded, its huge snow-covered mountains, bright blue lakes, old Buddhist monasteries and clean roads. Travelling to Sikkim may soon get a lot easier as the government is planning to implement an online tourist permit system.

According to Northeast Today, the plan was proposed by Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang. He believes that an Online Permit System can make tourist permit issuance more transparent, efficient and technology-driven. But that’s not all. This online system will have AI-based technologies that would simplify the whole process, reduce paperwork and prevent revenue leakage.

New Digital System To Replace Paperwork

According to Northeast Today, the revenue collected from the online permit system for tourists would ultimately benefit people through increased funding for development programmes. Furthermore, this new system is also expected to strengthen the role of Sikkim-based registered tour operators. The reason? Apparently, these tourist permits will be issued only through authorised local operators.

There’s more. This system will also feature tourist footfall analysis, revenue projections, potential leakages and existing permit processes. This digital system will replace physical paperwork with QR-enabled passes that ensure smooth verification at security and police posts. The best part? This new system will be a lot faster!
