And travelling to Goa amid the pandemic, may not be the best idea right now as India grapples with the second wave. Here’s everything you need to know about the Covid situation in the beach destination.

Goa Records 927 Covid Cases In One Day; Highest Single Day Rise Ever

Goa has included 927 new cases of Covid-19 on April 16, which is their highest daily increase in active cases of Covid-19. According to The Indian Express Chief Minister Pramod Sawant spoke to the media and said, “Today there are 927 cases that is the highest . Even last year we had seen maximum of upto 750 cases a day. There were 3189 people who were tested (in the last 24 hours) of which 927 tested positive and there have been six deaths.” Calming speculations, Sawant added that there will not be any lockdown in the state but he urged the Goans to follow safety norms and avoid crowded places. The state ministry has already stopped the number of people attending events to 200.

Despite Rising Covid Cases, Goa To Not Impose Restrictions Or Night Curfews

Even five municipal councils are set up to go to polls on April 23rd and Sawant has also requested political leaders to limit the size of their meetings. This shows that the Goan ministry is doing its best to curb the spread of COVID-19. But there is another side of this picture. Till now Goa has not stopped tourism from other states nor mandated testing on arrival. Speaking about this matter, Sawant said that the government did not impose any restrictions because lockdowns and night curfews in other states had already led to a drop in arrivals of visitors.

Goa To Introduce Mobile Testing Vans That Provide Covid Test Reports In 8 Hours

Speaking further on the matter, he said “On account of restrictions in other states in the country, there had been a drop in arrivals by flight by upto 70 percent and tourists coming by road had dropped by 50 percent. We don’t need to restrict them yet because they do not come in contact with local people much. Tourism activity is not restricted, but we are more concerned about our people…More than outsiders, we are making sure that our people don’t gather in one place and stay safe.” Goa will soon introduce mobile testing vans next week that will provide RT-PCR test reports in up to eight hours.
