Amazon Cargo Plane Crashes At Miami International Airport
The Boeing 767-300 was operated by 21 Air for Amazon. The flight arrived at Miami International Airport shortly after 2 PM local time from San Juan, Puerto Rico. However, the plane could not stop in time and went beyond the end of the runway. As per FlightRadar24, the aircraft was travelling at 112 knots, or 129 mph, when it left the runway. The plane then crossed a nearby road and hit several vehicles before catching fire.
The plane stopped after the crash, with its front part touching the ground near a parking lot. Two large trucks were also nearby. Due to the crash, five people died, and five others were injured. However, it is not yet confirmed whether the people who died were inside the aircraft or outside.
People Inside The Aircraft Need To Be Rescued
As per The Indian Express, Miami-Dade Rescue Fire Chief Ray Jadallah revealed that the pilot and co-pilot were trapped inside the cockpit. People inside the vehicles that were hit also needed to be rescued. Soon after the crash, emergency teams reached the site. The teams found the aircraft engulfed in flames, with heavy smoke coming from it.
The firefighters used foam to control the fire and worked to shut down the engine. The team also worked on managing the fuel leak. Due to the incident, flight operations at Miami Airport were disrupted. More than 160 flights were cancelled, and 325 were delayed.
